A Girl in Bhopal, the Subject of Alex Masi’s Photograph, to Receive Grant Money – NYTimes.com

Poonam, 7, is refreshing under the late monsoon rain in the impoverished Oriya Basti Colony in Bhopal, India, near the former Union Carbide industrial complex. When the heavy monsoon rain falls every year, it seeps through the buried waste of Union Carbide before proceeding to fill up and pollute the area's underground reservoirs. Hi Alex, this is an eye catching picture. Its sensual and hopeful, yet mired in dirt. The only synonym of a lotus comes to mind. Congratulations on raising funds for Poonam. You put your money where your pictures are. As someone who straddles India and the UK perhaps you will also appreciate my blog http://www.laxmihariharan.com/ Of late my theme has mainly been about how the East is the new West while I live in London which seems to be in the middle of a mystic – east renaissance. Would love your thoughts too.
